What online STI testing and treatment is
Sexually transmitted infections — also called STIs or STDs — are passed on through sexual contact, including oral sex. There are many of them, and symptoms differ considerably, including between men and women. Some can lead to infertility later in life or to transmission from mother to child, so if a partner has been infected it is important to be properly treated even in the absence of symptoms.
In an online consultation the doctor speaks to you by telephone or video call. A testing kit is posted to you, you take the sample yourself and return it, and we contact you with the result. Where treatment is needed, the medication is posted to you. Consultations from the first visit have been permitted since the expansion of online medical care in April 2020.

All treatment is self-pay, so public health insurance does not apply and the full cost is borne by the patient. Because health insurance is not used, no notice of medical expenses is sent to your home or your workplace. What testing and treatment is appropriate is decided by the doctor at the consultation.
How the online consultation works
Step 1 — Booking
Tell us the dates you would like through LINE. Applications are accepted 24 hours a day.
Step 2 — The doctor’s consultation
We contact you by telephone or video call on the number you give us. The doctor asks about your symptoms, when you think exposure may have occurred, and your partner’s situation.
Step 3 — Payment
An invoice is sent to the email address you register.
Step 4 — Despatch of the testing kit and medication
Once payment is confirmed we post the testing kit and any medication. If you would prefer them held at a post office for collection, please say so at the consultation.
Step 5 — Returning the sample
Take the sample yourself following the enclosed instructions and return it. We will contact you with the result.

Symptoms vary widely between infections, and some produce no symptoms at all. If a partner has tested positive, please arrange to be tested even if you feel entirely well.
Important information about this treatment
- Self-pay treatment: testing and treatment at this clinic are not covered by public health insurance. The full cost is borne by the patient. No insurance card is needed, and no notice of medical expenses is sent to your home or your workplace.
- Testing that requires a visit: syphilis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and herpes are blood tests and cannot be completed by post. A visit to the clinic is required for the blood sample.
- Timing of testing: each infection has a window during which a test cannot yet detect it. Testing too soon after possible exposure may give a negative result even where infection is present. Please tell the doctor when you think exposure may have occurred.
- Taking the sample yourself: results depend on the sample being taken correctly. Please follow the enclosed instructions. Re-testing may be advised if the sample is inadequate.
- Completing treatment: take the medication as prescribed and complete the course even if symptoms settle. Stopping early risks the infection persisting. Your partner should be tested and treated at the same time; otherwise re-infection can occur.
- Main risks and side effects: the medication used is antimicrobial, and allergic reactions, rash, diarrhoea, nausea and abdominal pain may occur. If any symptom concerns you, do not stop on your own judgement — tell us at a consultation.
What testing and treatment is appropriate is decided by the doctor at the consultation. Please ask the doctor about anything that is unclear.

Questions we are asked
Can I be tested for an STI online at a first consultation?
Yes. Chlamydia, gonorrhoea and candidiasis can be completed entirely by post, from consultation through to the testing kit and any medication.
Which tests cannot be done by post?
Syphilis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and herpes. All are blood tests, so a visit is needed for the sample to be taken.
I have no symptoms. Should I still be tested?
Yes, if there is reason to think you may have been exposed, or if a partner has tested positive. Several infections produce no symptoms in men while still being passed on, and some can lead to complications if left.
How soon after possible exposure can I be tested?
Each infection has a window during which a test cannot yet detect it, so testing very soon after exposure may miss an infection. Please tell the doctor when you think exposure may have occurred and follow the timing advised.
How much does online STI testing cost?
Chlamydial and gonococcal urethritis and their pharyngeal forms are ¥8,000 each, or ¥12,800 as a combined test. Candidiasis is ¥8,900. Syphilis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and herpes are ¥6,400 each, with a four-test set at ¥19,800. Pre-marital screening is ¥29,800.
What does treatment cost?
Chlamydial urethritis, gonococcal urethritis, pharyngeal chlamydia, pharyngeal gonorrhoea and candidiasis are ¥8,900 each. Postage is ¥550.
Is there a consultation fee?
There is no charge for a consultation accompanying testing or treatment. A consultation for advice alone is ¥3,000.
How do I pay?
By credit card or bank transfer. Please follow the invoice sent after the consultation.
Will my family or my employer find out?
No. All testing and treatment is self-pay and no health insurance is used, so no notice of medical expenses is sent to your home or your workplace.
Could the package reveal what it contains?
Nothing on the outside indicates the contents. If you would prefer it held at a post office for collection, please say so at the consultation.
How do I take the sample?
Instructions are enclosed with the kit. Take the sample as described and return it. If the sample proves inadequate, re-testing may be advised.
When will I get the result?
We contact you once the returned sample has been processed. The doctor will explain what the result means and, where treatment is needed, arrange for medication to be sent.
Should my partner be tested as well?
Yes. If only one partner is treated, re-infection can occur. We recommend that partners are tested and treated at the same time.
Do I need to finish the medication even if the symptoms clear?
Yes. Take the course as prescribed and complete it. Stopping early risks the infection persisting.
Is an insurance card needed?
No. All treatment is self-pay. If you want treatment covered by insurance, please consult a clinic providing insured care.
