What treatment at the clinic involves

Dermapen 4 makes very fine channels in the skin with a needle cartridge. The skin repairs those channels itself, and it is that repair process that is used to improve the texture of the skin. Because the effect comes from your own healing response, results build up over repeated sessions rather than appearing after one.

At this clinic a vitamin agent is applied during the session to work through the same channels. Which agent is used can be chosen to suit what you want to improve, and the doctor will advise at the consultation.

Dermapen 4 and Velvet Skin

Two menus are offered. Dermapen 4 for the full face is priced with vitamin C introduction included. Velvet Skin is a separate full-face menu at a higher price. Which one suits you is decided at the consultation — please ask us for the details.

Your visit, step by step

• Book through LINE or the website. If there is a free slot we can often see you the same day.
• The doctor examines your skin and confirms what is to be treated and which agent to use.
• If you have booked anaesthetic, it is applied and left for about 30 minutes.
• The session is carried out. A full face takes about an hour in total, including the time for the anaesthetic.
• Sessions are repeated about once a month, usually five to ten times.

Important information about this treatment

• Self-pay treatment: this treatment is not covered by Japanese public health insurance and the full cost is borne by the patient. No insurance card is needed, so no notice of medical expenses is sent to your home or your workplace.
• Redness afterwards: the treated area turns red after the session. For most people it settles by the following day. Where the needle is used at greater depth, as it is for deep acne scars, redness can last two to three days.
• Pain: a prickling sensation may be felt during the session, more so where the skin is thin or close to bone. Anaesthetic is used at this clinic, which keeps it slight. Afterwards the skin often feels as it does after sunburn.
• Skin care after the session: for the first 12 hours apply only something mild, and lightly. From 12 hours onwards moisturise thoroughly, as the skin is sensitive.
• Sun protection: the skin reacts more readily to ultraviolet light after treatment. From 12 hours onwards use sunscreen and protect the area from the sun.
• For one week before and after: avoid skin care containing peeling agents, vitamin A (retinol) or hydroquinone.
• Do not rub the area: rubbing or otherwise irritating the skin after treatment can cause inflammation.
• Anaesthetic: you may not bring your own. Please book anaesthetic together with your session.
• Individual variation: the result, the sensation and any side effects differ from person to person. Whether treatment is appropriate is decided by the doctor at the consultation.

Lateness and cancellation

If you arrive late, treatment can only be carried out within the time remaining in your booked slot, and the full price of the booked treatment — or one session of a course — is charged. For cancellations and changes, no charge applies three days ahead; 75% is charged two days to one day ahead; and 100% is charged on the day. For patients on a course, one session is counted as used.

Visiting the clinic

Microneedling means coming back roughly once a month, so getting to the clinic easily matters. The Shimbashi clinic is one minute on foot from the Ginza exit of JR Shimbashi Station, open until 21:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 to 18:00 at weekends and on public holidays — hours that fit around work.

Coming as an English speaker

You can be seen here without speaking Japanese. There is no English-speaking doctor at the clinic: the consultation is handled with a translation app and a written intake form, which is usually enough for the doctor to decide on treatment. You are welcome to bring a Japanese-speaking companion or your own interpreter.

Coming on foot from the Ginza exit

Leave JR Shimbashi Station by the Ginza exit and cross to the pavement on the side of the Big Echo karaoke building. Keep Big Echo on your left and walk straight ahead. Cross at the pedestrian crossing, continue straight past the udon restaurant, follow the curve in the road, go up the short flight of steps and come up to the seventh floor of the Maruchu Building.

Coming from Tokyo Metro

Come up to street level from exit 1 of Tokyo Metro Shimbashi Station and walk straight ahead. Cross at the pedestrian crossing, continue past the udon restaurant, follow the curve in the road and go up the short flight of steps to the Maruchu Building.

If you are hesitating

I am worried it will hurt.
