Bottom line: For men, full-body hair removal means medical laser hair removal — full stop. If you have invested in resistance training and want every muscle cut to read sharper, medical laser hair removal is cheaper than salon-style light treatments over a five-year horizon and the results are far more predictable. In this guide, supervised by our physicians at Men’s Care Clinic, we break down pricing, the number of sessions you should plan for, and how to pick the right clinic. You can confirm our latest pricing here.

Bottom line: there are seven reasons athletic men choose full-body laser hair removal. (1) Muscle definition reads sharper, (2) a dramatic boost in cleanliness, (3) less sweat irritation and body odor, (4) easier post-workout showers, (5) you photograph better at contests and shoots, (6) better feedback from partners, and (7) freedom from razor burn and ingrown hairs caused by DIY shaving.
Dense body hair hides the very abdominal separations and surface veins you have trained so hard for. That is the single biggest reason why nearly every Physique, Best Body, and bodybuilding competitor has had laser hair removal. Even if you only train at a regular gym, your silhouette looks dramatically sharper in a T-shirt or tank top — at the gym, at the pool, anywhere.
Body hair traps sebum and sweat, which lets bacteria multiply — a major driver of age-related odor and general body odor. When full-body hair removal reduces overall body hair, sweat runs off cleanly and deodorants last longer. In surveys of what women find attractive in men, “cleanliness” consistently ranks number one by a wide margin, so a leaner, smoother body is a clear advantage in dating and matchmaking too.

Bottom line: 8 advantages and 3 drawbacks. Every drawback can be avoided if you plan ahead. The table below sums up the pros and cons of full-body laser hair removal at a glance.
| Aspect | Advantage | Drawback / caveat |
| Effectiveness | Permanent hair reduction is realistic | 5-8 visits are required |
| Cleanliness | Major reduction in sweat and odor | — |
| Cost | Cheaper than salon light treatment over 5 years | Upfront cost is roughly ¥200,000-¥400,000 |
| Pain | Numbing cream and cooling can soften it | VIO and underarms can hurt more |
| Time per session | 90-120 minutes per visit | Visits are spaced 2-3 months apart |
| Skin | Frees you from razor burn and ingrown hairs | Cannot be treated while heavily tanned |
| Dating / impression | Cleaner appearance is well received by women | — |
The “cannot be treated while heavily tanned” drawback is completely avoidable if you start before summer or begin in winter. At our clinic, we also provide free guidance on sun protection and skin care while you are in active treatment.

Bottom line: at our clinic, “full body” by default excludes the face, VIO, and neck. You can add them on if you wish. Because what counts as “full body” varies by clinic, always confirm the included areas before you sign a contract.
Men’s Care Clinic — areas included in the standard full-body set
– Arms: backs of hands, fingers, upper arm (above elbow), forearm (below elbow)
– Torso and back: both shoulders, both underarms, chest (nipples excluded), abdomen, midline (“happy trail”), entire back
– Lower body: thighs, knees, lower legs, tops of feet and toes
– Optional add-ons: facial hair / VIO / front of neck / nape
VIO (genital area) and facial hair are offered as separate plans because the pain level and required number of sessions differ significantly from other areas. VIO is increasingly popular with men in their 30s and 40s, both for hygiene and to reduce future care burdens, and we cover it in detail in our separate article “Men’s VIO Hair Removal: Pros and Cons“.

Bottom line: for “noticeably cleaner” you need around 5 sessions, and for truly smooth skin around 8 sessions. Three-session packages rarely produce a visible enough result to satisfy most men, so always pick a plan of 5 sessions or more.
| Area | “Noticeably cleaner” | “Truly smooth” | Total treatment span |
| VIO hair removal | 4-6 sessions | 8 sessions or more | 1-2 years |
| Facial hair (beard) removal | Around 8 sessions | Around 10 sessions | 1-1.5 years |
| Body hair (chest, abdomen, back, arms, legs) | Around 5 sessions | Around 8 sessions | 1-2 years |
| Nape and neck | Around 5 sessions | Around 8 sessions | 1-2 years |
Our standard full-body set is “5 sessions valid for 2 years.” On a 3-month cadence, the schedule comes in at about 15 months straight through, with built-in slack so you can still finish within 24 months even if work or travel delays a visit. After the set, you can keep up maintenance with extra sessions at ¥32,800 per full-body session, or from ¥2,980 per area.

Bottom line: 5 sessions of full-body medical laser hair removal run about ¥200,000-¥400,000. Salon light treatment requires 12-18 sessions and ends up at ¥300,000-¥500,000, so medical is actually cheaper. If you choose a salon just because the upfront price is lower, five years later the result will still not have stuck and you will still be paying.
| Plan | Sessions | Price (tax incl.) | Notes |
| Arms (5 sessions) | 5 | ¥74,800 | Valid for 2 years |
| Torso & back (5 sessions) | 5 | ¥174,000 | Valid for 2 years |
| Lower body (5 sessions) | 5 | ¥138,000 | Valid for 2 years |
| A la carte total | — | ¥386,800 | — |
| Full-body set | 5 | ¥302,000 | Save ¥84,800 vs. a la carte |
| VIO add-on | 5 | +¥88,000 | — |
After the set ends, additional sessions are from ¥2,980 per area or ¥32,800 for the whole body in one session. Salon-style light hair removal is pay-per-session and tends to keep you paying forever, while medical laser hair removal finishes in a defined number of sessions — so on a 5- or 10-year horizon, the medical route is overwhelmingly better value. For men committed to resistance training, we also offer a “muscle discount” — ask us at the time of your free consultation for details.

Bottom line: on effectiveness, treatment span, and total cost, medical laser hair removal beats salon light treatment on every axis. Salon-based light hair removal is so much weaker that it cannot legally claim “permanent hair removal” in Japan — that should tell you everything.
| Comparison | Medical laser hair removal | Salon light hair removal |
| Effectiveness | Permanent reduction is realistic | Suppression / thinning only |
| Sessions to finish | 5-8 | 12-18 or more |
| Treatment span | 1-2 years | 3-5 years |
| 5-year total cost | ¥300,000-¥400,000 | ¥400,000-¥600,000 |
| Pain | Stronger (numbing available) | Milder |
| Provider | Physicians and nurses | Salon aestheticians |
| Handling complications | Medications can be prescribed in-house | Referral to partner clinic |
About 40% of people who choose salon light treatment because of the cheaper per-session price end up switching to medical laser anyway when the results do not show. Choosing medical laser from the start is the most rational decision, both for your time and your wallet. For more, see “3 Reasons We Recommend Men’s Medical Hair Removal“.
Bottom line: confirm five things — (1) number of sessions (5+), (2) validity period (2+ years), (3) the laser device used, (4) the cost of extra sessions, and (5) whether a physician is on site. Cover these five and you will almost never regret your choice.
Three-session packages are bait designed to look cheap. Male body hair is denser than female body hair, and three sessions will not get you to the “noticeably cleaner” line. The minimum acceptable standard is “5 sessions, valid 2 years.”
For the dense body hair typical in men, an Alexandrite laser (such as GentleLase) is most effective. SHR-style (stored-heat) diode lasers cause less pain, but for thick male hair, HR-style (thermal-destruction) lasers tend to deliver stronger results. At our clinic we use GentleLase.
Some clinics charge ¥10,000+ per extra session once your set runs out — over time, that becomes very expensive. And at venues where no physician is on site and only nurses are present, response time for skin problems is slower. Because this is medical care, choose a clinic where a physician is actually on site.
A. Most patients say that DIY shaving becomes easier from around the third or fourth session, and at the end of session 5 you typically reach the “noticeably cleaner” level. If you are aiming for truly smooth skin, plan for about 8 sessions.
A. Pain varies a lot by area; VIO and the underarms tend to feel strongest. We offer a topical numbing cream (for an extra fee) on request. Because our laser uses an integrated cooling system, many patients describe areas like the thighs and arms as “almost painless.”
A. The standard cadence is one visit every 2-3 months. Each session takes 90-120 minutes. Weekend and evening slots are available, so working professionals can fit it in comfortably.
A. At our clinic, beard removal is a separate plan. The reason is simple: beards require 8+ sessions to clear well, so bundling them into a 5-session full-body plan would lower overall effectiveness. For details, see “Beard Hair Removal: Pain and Required Sessions“.
A. A heavy tan is a no-go: the laser reacts to the melanin in tanned skin and can cause burns. We recommend starting before summer or beginning in winter.
A. Medical laser hair removal delivers realistic permanent reduction, but it does not destroy 100% of follicles, so hormonal changes or aging can produce some faint regrowth. After the course, one or two maintenance sessions per year will keep the result essentially permanent.
A. Yes — we accept medical loans and installment payment on most major credit cards. Plans from around ¥10,000 per month are available. Please discuss the details with us at your free consultation.
Hard-earned muscle loses half its impact if it is buried under thick body hair. Medical laser full-body hair removal makes permanent hair reduction realistic, costs less than salon light treatment over five years, and lets you gain a cleaner look and a sharper physique at the same time.
